Mountain Vista principal Dr. Paxton honored as Colorado assistant-principal of the year

The Harrison School District No. 2 Board of Education recognized Dr. Paxton on Aug. 21, 2024, honoring her selection as the 2025 Colorado outstanding middle-level assistant principal of the year and noting her recent promotion to principal at Mountain Vista Community School.
Board members credited Paxton with developing the district’s first CTE pathway at Mountain Vista, instituting a comprehensive counseling calendar and building a restorative-justice program that aims to give students ways to repair harm and learn from mistakes. The board said those efforts have driven “remarkable academic achievements” and praised her 11 years of district service.
Paxton told the board she was surprised and grateful to receive the award: “I don’t know why you get an award for that, but thank you.” A board member also noted the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) presented recognition to the district for supporting Superintendent Wendy Behanzel during her service on the AASA executive committee.
Board members offered congratulatory remarks and encouraged Paxton as she assumes broader leadership at Mountain Vista. The recognition took place early in the agenda and was followed by other routine board business.
