Georgetown ISD bond projects: high school, middle school and PAC move to design and early construction

Wes Vanishak updated the board on Georgetown ISD's Prop A construction program on May 5, describing progress on a new comprehensive high school, middle- and elementary-school projects, and a proposed performing-arts center (PAC).
Vanisak said the new high school is designed as a large, comprehensive campus (materials described ~530,000 square feet and ~2,250 student capacity) and that site work and preconstruction activities were underway; he estimated the earliest practical groundbreaking would be early fall and cautioned the project entails a long construction phase. "I think we'll look probably early fall at the earliest to do groundbreaking," Vanishak said.
He reported crews were on site starting April 15 to clear and protect the site, with building-permit submissions expected toward the end of the summer and additional revisions to follow as the city review proceeds. Vanishak also said the district plans to set school colors earlier than in previous openings to help interior finishes stay on schedule, and the board will be included in naming and other milestones.
Vanisak described other work in the bond program: an 11-month renovation on a middle-school footprint to increase capacity to about 850 in that area, several renovation projects in design (fine-arts additions, weight rooms, painting and mechanical updates), and a PAC in schematic design with a preliminary target use date in January 2028 and roughly 800 seats. He encouraged community members to consult the district's bond website for updated timelines, photos and a project calendar.
Trustees asked about naming, rezoning, and when the community would see more detailed schedules; staff said rezoning conversations typically begin about a year before openings and noted a long-range planning committee and a citizens advisory committee would be used for community input. Vanisak said staff will bring more refined plans and timelines back to the board in the coming months.
