Cumberland tables $79,000 transportation-efficiency proposal, seeks vendor briefing

The Cumberland School Committee discussed but did not approve an expanded transportation-efficiency study from Transpar Group Inc. on Aug. 28, asking the vendor to appear at the next meeting to answer questions about scope and timeline.
Superintendent Dr. Thornton reminded the committee that the district previously authorized a baseline package and explained Transpar provided an additional price (roughly $79,000) for added analysis that could include start times and boundary adjustments for fiscal year 2027 work. "I think it was 79,000 for that for that work," Dr. Thornton said when summarizing the proposal.
Committee members asked whether phase 1 had been voted on previously and whether the new package constituted a separate phase requiring its own approval. Mr. Dean noted the committee had approved an initial phase and asked for clarification on how the new request related to that earlier approval.
Several members asked Transpar to participate (virtually or in person) at the next meeting so the committee can submit questions in advance and get detailed answers. The committee agreed to table the phase-2 decision and to invite the Transpar representative to the next meeting.
No vote was taken to authorize the additional work on Aug. 28; the committee directed staff to coordinate vendor attendance and gather committee questions for Transpar ahead of the next session.
