The Johnston City Council on May 17 approved routine business including the consent agenda and $1,771,564.40 in city claims during its regular meeting.
Public comment included a resident, Patty, who asked the council to consider installing pedestrian walkway signage on the driver’s side at roundabouts on 70th & 100th and 60th & 100th after she said a child nearly was struck. “I just feel it’s important if we're going to have them, that we have them at each roundabout,” Patty said. Staff member Matt responded that the city generally places signs in higher-pedestrian areas and agreed to look into the two roundabouts named by the speaker.
City staff (Mike) briefed the council on upcoming DART open houses scheduled to begin the following morning related to a proposed reimagined DART route; staff said one positive outcome would be a 30-minute route serving rural Hay under the proposed reimagined plan and urged residents and council members to review materials and submit comments within an aggressive timeline.
Council members offered brief remarks. Councilmember Adams said he is running for re-election unopposed and thanked residents for their support. Other members described sustainability and wildlife projects the city has led, referenced recent community concerts and reiterated the importance of school resource officers following a recent regional shooting; they thanked staff for their work.
With no further business the mayor adjourned the meeting.
The transcript records motions and approvals for the consent agenda and claims but does not provide a full roll-call name-by-name tally for each action in the meeting record shown.
