Board tables proposed attendance policy changes after questions on wording for lower grades

The district’s proposed attendance-policy revisions were presented on March 24 by Crystal Davis but tabled after board members requested clearer language for elementary and middle grades.
Davis said the rewrite reorganizes existing language, formalizes remote instruction attendance rules generated during COVID, clarifies excused-absence categories (including isolation ordered by local health authorities), and aligns makeup work with state statute and the student-conduct code. She noted one change would set a high-school absence limit at eight days per semester; board members asked whether comparable numeric limits for lower grades and a parent-note allowance (previously discussed by principals) were included. Several members said the language should explicitly reflect the principals’ earlier suggestions and recommended further revisions before approval.
Board Member motioned and the board voted to table the attendance-policy item and to delete administrative procedure 4.2 AP; both actions were approved and the policy will return to a future meeting after staff incorporate the requested clarifications.
