The board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Pinal Hispanic Council to expand student support services on campus.
Superintendent Lavender described the agreement as a referral and service arrangement: when a referral is made to Pinal Hispanic Council, the council will contact families, handle required paperwork and set up meetings, and the district will provide a safe space for counselors to meet with students on campus. "This is a memorandum of understanding between us and Pinal County or Pinal Hispanic Council, to provide extensive services for our students who need them on campus," Lavender said.
After brief discussion emphasizing the importance of such services for students with emotional and mental-health needs, the board moved and approved the MOU by roll-call vote.
