Superintendent: union ratification goes to town council; BPAC coordinator interviews underway

Superintendent Dr. Salito updated the Burrillville School Committee March 11 on several administrative items with potential near-term impact.
He said the district has reached an agreement with Council 94 (representing paraprofessionals and custodial staff) and that the agreement will be presented to the Burrillville Town Council for ratification at its March 12 meeting. "We reached agreement earlier this year. School committee has voted to ratify that... The final step is to get ratification from the town council," Dr. Salito said.
Dr. Salito also reported that interviews are under way for a coordinator for the Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition (BPAC), a role previously held by Monica Blanchette. He said second interviews are scheduled and the district hopes to recommend a hire within one to two weeks; the hiring process will include coordination with the police department, where Colonel Lynch has final hiring authority.
Finally, Dr. Salito said regional representatives that fund portions of the BPAC position are engaged and staff are working on grant-driven prevention spending plans for the high school; he emphasized the need to use available funds before grant deadlines.
He noted a letter from DECA requesting $500 to offset national-conference travel costs for students and said the committee will consider that request under new business.
