Superintendent seeks RFP for building feasibility study, proposes building committee

Superintendent Dr. Solito told the Burrillville School Committee the district will issue an RFP for an engineering and feasibility study to evaluate school facilities and enrollment projections and said a building committee will meet to satisfy Rhode Island Department of Education requirements.
Superintendent Dr. Solito told the Burrillville School Committee on Feb. 11 that the district will develop a request for proposals for an outside engineering and feasibility study to assess school facilities, enrollment projections and options for future projects.
"We are in the process of putting together a request for proposals," Solito said, adding the RFP will be issued to companies on the Department of Education master price agreement so estimates will satisfy state approval requirements. He said the district hopes to have the RFP ready within "the next week or two" and will present costs and next steps to the school committee and town council.
Solito also outlined a building/space-needs committee that will include the school liaison to the town council, Mr. Houle, the town planner Mr. Goff, two school committee members, a parent and representatives from the school department. He said that committee composition meets Rhode Island Department of Education requirements if the district later seeks state approval for building work.
The superintendent reminded members that the district's presentation to the budget board is scheduled for Feb. 20 in the Town Council chambers and that calendar slides will be similar to the recent joint meeting slides.
The committee did not take formal action on the RFP at the meeting; staff will return with an RFP and cost estimates for committee review.
