Board selects IASB priorities, names delegate; approves milk contract and routine items

The Burlington Community School District board Aug. 25 selected four priorities to submit to the Iowa Association of School Boards: support for student/educator/staff mental health; supplemental state aid; safe and secure learning/work environments; and literacy as a foundational priority. Monica McVey was named the district’s voting delegate for the IASB assembly.
The board also approved routine business: adoption of the meeting agenda, the consent agenda (including previously paid bills of $217,984.68, unpaid bills of $431,190.80, and BMO Bank peak card purchases of $95,512.77), and the monthly ESSER and SAVE status report. Greg Reynolds reported only one milk bid for the year — Anderson‑Erickson — with a 2.8¢ price increase; the board approved that contract.
Board members discussed what to send to the IASB (a packet of eight priorities was pared to four by vote) and confirmed that one person would be the official voting delegate at the assembly though other board members may attend.
The meeting included a student representative update and a superintendent report on facilities and staffing; the board adjourned after communications and acknowledgements.
Next steps: Greg Reynolds will finalize procurement paperwork and the district will submit the selected IASB priorities to the association.
