Burlington school officials report final punch‑list work as opening approaches; some fixtures delayed

A presenter said contractors are “trucking right along” and that city final inspection and occupancy could be obtained in the coming weeks.
Contractors described additional testing on recently installed windows: caulking requires a cure period before water testing can begin. The project team noted earlier high failure rates on some envelope testing that triggered 100% retesting; an envelope commissioning agent has been overseeing remediation.
Several segments of the work were described as delayed. One contractor said the gym floor contractor “ran into a hiccup on another job” and the district pushed that completion date beyond the start of school; a presenter said, “we're still expected to hit our date that we pushed it back to September 5.” Later in discussion a board member noted, “The gym floor, we know that's September 15,” reflecting two estimates discussed during the meeting. The report also said new toilet and locker‑room partitions will not arrive in time for opening in some areas; temporary measures will be used in CTE spaces and some locker rooms until shipments arrive.
Staff reported other localized repairs: a small sanitary sewer section near the softball concession stand was fixed, light‑pole rewiring and regrading around a storm sewer corner remain in progress, and ductwork cleaning for the shop dust‑collection system has been completed. Staff also described door‑position switch programming and planned fire‑alarm/PA volume testing once returning staff are available for training.
Board members asked for follow‑up details on several items, including verification of an AHERA (asbestos) repair‑action reference in the student handbook that staff said they would confirm and correct if needed. The district approved the ESSER/SAVE monthly status reports by voice vote following the presentation.
The board did not set new deadlines beyond the contractor estimates; staff emphasized they will continue punch‑list work while prioritizing safety and building comfort.
