Boyle County approves library tax rates; magistrates request reserve and expenditure breakdowns

The Boyle County Fiscal Court voted to approve tax rates proposed by the library district on Sept. 23 after a presentation from library representative Kylie.
Kylie told the court the board adopted the compensating rate for real property (6.9%), 7.71 for personal property and a fixed motor-vehicle rate of 3.5. She reviewed fiscal-year highlights, including annual building traffic the packet recorded at roughly 104,182 visits, continuing outreach into Junction City and plans for a literacy celebration on Nov. 8.
Magistrates pressed staff to provide a clearer accounting of the library's reserve balances and the ratio of reserves to annual expenditures across taxing districts. One magistrate said several special taxing districts' reserves can exceed county reserves and asked the library to email those reserve numbers to the court so elected officials can review how those funds align with district needs.
The court approved the library tax rates; a separate motion approved turning identified historical documents over to the Story Center for preservation.
