Resident urges action after repeated noise and safety problems at Boar’s Nest during rallies

Dale Peters, a Lawrence County resident, told the commission he and his wife have lived near Thunder Lane for 52 years and detailed ongoing problems he attributes to the Boar’s Nest business during motorcycle rallies: loud motorcycles and a band, amplified public-address announcements, and parking that blocks sightlines and creates safety risks.

“I am here to tell you about the problems with the Boar’s Nest business across from the highway from us,” Peters said, describing repeated calls to the sheriff’s office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol during events and saying noise and traffic impact his household’s quality of life.

Commissioners and staff acknowledged the complaints and said they have engaged the state DOT and Highway Patrol about temporary no-parking signs and enforcement during rally periods. County staff said temporary signs had been installed previously and that further permanent measures would require coordination with state authorities because the location sits on a state highway. Sheriff’s office staff and commissioners said they have monitored events and received videos and that enforcement is challenging during multi-day rallies.

The commission thanked Peters for raising the issue and said it would continue discussions with DOT, Highway Patrol and the business owner to explore enforcement or mitigation options consistent with state jurisdiction and public-safety responsibilities.
