Student rep sworn in; Boone County Schools honors staff and presents $10,000 to MadKicks

The board opened the meeting with ceremonial recognitions, swearing in AJ Wyckoff as the 2025–26 student representative and taking photos with the judge and the student’s family.
AJ Wyckoff, a Conner High School senior who runs track and cross-country, told the board he aims to make the Student Superintendent Advisory Council (SSAC) a place for student leaders to learn from one another and to support high-school committees such as mental-health teams. "I'm incredibly excited to be representing the students of Boone County Schools and doing my best to improve them for future students," Wyckoff said.
The board also honored Beverly Daniels of the transportation department as Boone County’s Education Support Professional of the Year; she will represent Kentucky at the National ESP Awards in Anaheim. The board presented Helen Cottengimm with the Student Transportation Association of Kentucky Lifetime Service Award and heard stories of her five-decade transportation career.
Separately, Kelly Elementary students, staff and families raised $10,000 to support MadKicks, a nonprofit that provides adaptive shoes for children with cerebral palsy. Marlene Tice, MadKicks founder, described the organization’s store-like distribution model and said the donation will open an additional MadKicks location and supply shoes for a year. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 4 contributed $4,000 to meet the school’s $10,000 goal.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students and staff for community engagement and long service to the district.
