Bonner County approves detention housing agreement, vehicle purchase and facility repairs for sheriff’s office

Bonner County commissioners on Sept. 23 approved several items brought by the Sheriff’s Office, including an intergovernmental detention agreement, a vehicle purchase for inmate transport, and payment for completed repairs at the county jail.
Undersheriff presented a five-year lease for floor space and tower access at $2,015.84 with 3% annual increases; the board approved accepting the lease and administratively authorizing the chair to sign. The board also approved an adult-detention agreement with the Kootenai Tribe of Idaho to house male and female inmates at the Bonner County Detention Facility at $125 per inmate per day (previously $90), in effect through Nov. 30, 2026, with 30 days’ termination notice.
The Sheriff requested pre-authorization to order a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe for jail transport at the state-bid price of $56,811.36. Commissioners discussed fleet strategy and confirmed the vehicle will replace an older Suburban with very high mileage; the motion to approve the Tahoe purchase for FY26 carried by roll call.
A completed drainage repair for the outdoor recreation area at the jail was presented and inspected; commissioners authorized repayment to Northpointe Trenchless for $9,845. A request to purchase $9,500 in electrical services from Dynamic Electrical for marina/jail electrical improvements was presented but deferred so staff could return with project details.
The board also approved two short-term marine moorage agreements to support the Sheriff’s Marine Division and an IDEMIA fingerprint-maintenance addendum for juvenile detention fingerprinting equipment.
