Bolivar R‑I adds SRO and expands SPO program; district posts safety signage

The Bolivar R‑I School District on Aug. 21 introduced a new school resource officer and described steps to expand on-campus protection.
Scott Hendrickson, the district's SRO, told the board "We have a new SRO, Tyler Sammons... he has been excellent to work with," and said Sammons completed an extensive weeklong class in Jefferson City. Hendrickson described a School Protection Officer (SPO) program that includes a roughly 120-hour training regimen and emphasized coordinating training and roles among SROs, SPOs and school staff.
Board members asked whether safety-related signage had been posted; staff confirmed notices are visible at main and side entrances across buildings. Multiple board members said they had seen the signs and described them as "very visible."
No formal vote was required on the staffing update; the board thanked SROs and SPOs for their work. The district said it will continue to integrate training and collaboration between SROs, SPOs and school personnel as the year begins.
