San Benito Consolidated Independent School District trustees approved a slate of actions during their April 30 meeting, including a five‑year website contract, staffing and budget changes, and the award of the design‑build contract for a planned performing arts center.
Key votes and outcomes
• Website provider (Agenda item 4.3): Board approved a five‑year contract with the recommended website vendor that the administration said includes a custom district design, integrated messaging (email/text/social), campus storefronts, a mobile app and an AI chat function. The vendor will extend the district’s existing site through Nov. 30 and the district and vendor targeted December 1 for the new site launch. Motion carried (mover: López; seconder: Corona).
• Compensation plan revisions (Agenda item 4.4): Board approved three changes to the 2024–25 compensation plan: creating a Theatre/Fine Arts Director position, renaming Director of Student Support to Director of CCMR (Career, College and Military Readiness), and adding a CTE counselor position funded by reallocating existing CTE funds. Motion carried (mover: López; seconder: Hetton).
• Budget amendment (Agenda item 4.5): Board approved moving funds within the CTE program to the maintenance department for Sunny Brazil summer work: $30,000 for sand replacement and sanitation, and $4,454 for ventilation doors (total $34,454). Motion carried (mover and seconder on record).
• Design‑build award and authorization (Agenda items 4.1 & 4.2): After presentations and a closed session, the board voted to select D Wilson as the design‑build contractor for RFQ/RFP 0325 and separately authorized administration to negotiate contract terms with the firm. Motions carried.
• Personnel actions (Agenda items 5.1, 6.1–6.6): Trustees approved resignations, retirements and terminations as discussed in closed session; they approved renewal of term and probationary contracts for teachers, librarians, nurses and instructional coaches for 2024–25 and 2025–26 as presented; and they approved the nonrenewal of teacher JS’s 2024–25 term contract. Motions carried.
Each motion on the record was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote; the board chair stated “Motion passes” for the recorded items. The district did not read individual roll‑call tallies for votes on the floor during the meeting.
What’s next: Administration was directed to negotiate the performing‑arts contract with the selected firm and to return a final contract to the board for approval. The website vendor will continue to host the district site through Nov. 30, with a targeted transition to the new platform on Dec. 1.
