Blue Valley board approves 7-year Amplify CKLA adoption and expanded 95% Group phonics materials

The Blue Valley Board of Education on March 3 voted unanimously to approve two instructional-materials agreements for elementary English language arts.
District presenters described a seven-year adoption of Amplify’s CKLA (third edition) knowledge strand for kindergarten through fifth grade as one of two core ELA resources. Jennifer Luzinski, who presented the Amplify proposal, said the selection followed “a year-long process of vetting potential resources” and that teachers ‘‘overwhelmingly expressed a preference’’ for the products chosen. Jason Gillum explained the district secured a three-payment structure to spread costs over three Julys (noted in discussion as July 2025, July 2026 and July 2027) and credited a logistics plan that saved the district about $103,000 by consolidating deliveries to a single center.
The board approved the Amplify Education Inc. agreement by voice vote (recorded as 7–0).
The board then approved an expanded purchase from the 95% Group to extend phonics materials beyond third grade, adding fourth- and fifth-grade editions and class sets of decodable texts for kindergarten through second grade. District staff said the expansion reflected teacher feedback that all elementary students should receive foundational phonics instruction. That agreement also passed unanimously, 7–0.
Administrators noted the Amplify purchase includes a mix of digital and print resources and that the district negotiated digital rights for the final two years of the adoption so the district can produce the exact number of consumable workbooks needed and reduce waste. Both contracts were presented to the finance committee prior to the board meeting.
