Architects present interiors, timeline for Howell multigenerational center; DD set due and cost estimate expected within a month

Adriana Grama Chotti, an interior designer with BH+A, presented a room-by-room design concept and finish palette for the Howell Multigenerational Building at the committee’s July 17 meeting. She described the entrance as a gathering space with special flooring, wood cove lighting and a reception granite desk, and outlined finishes for the cafe/lounge, multipurpose room, flex room, activity room, offices and restrooms.
Why it matters: The presentation formalized the design intent and materials that will feed the project’s construction documents and cost estimate. Jeremy (BH+A) told the committee the design-development (DD) drawing set will be completed tomorrow and will be sent to a cost estimator; the firm expects an updated cost estimate within about a month. That estimate will inform budget decisions and any scope adjustments.
Adriana said the main entrance is intended as an orientation and interaction space, with coordinated flooring and ceiling treatments to help people gather and move through the building. She detailed proposed materials: granite for the reception desk, LVT flooring through primary spaces, acoustic wall panels in the multipurpose room, and a mix of warm wood tones with cooling grays at room ends to balance the palette. For service and maintenance, she recommended backsplash tile and Pilam cabinets in the flex program room and a solid-surface (Korean white) countertop where noted.
Jeremy summarized near-term documents and permitting steps: the DD set will be finalized and distributed tomorrow; the DD set will go to a cost estimator, yielding an updated cost estimate within roughly one month; PAR’s permitting set is nearly ready and test borings were completed on Tuesday; site-review and permitting submissions are expected early next week. He also asked the committee to schedule follow-up meetings with specific stakeholders (kitchen users, town IT/security/AV staff) to resolve technical requirements.

Next steps: BH+A will issue the DD set, send the set to the cost estimator, and circulate the permit materials; committee members were invited to inspect physical finish samples on the back table. The committee agreed to coordinate follow-up meetings and distribution of materials to Jeff, Linda, Mark and Scott Gibbs.
The presentation closed with the architects noting that several open items (kitchen AV/security, final furniture packages) will be addressed in separate, focused meetings; the committee will review the cost estimate once it is issued.
