Mid Valley board approves routine personnel, contracts and a county assessment settlement

The Mid Valley School Board on a series of motions approved routine personnel appointments, volunteer contingent approvals, service agreements and financial reports, and accepted a county assessment settlement recommended by the Lackawanna County Board of Assessment Appeals.
Among the actions the board approved by voice or roll call were a memorandum of understanding with MVESPA relating to donation of days, authorization for the superintendent to review and approve leave requests pending paperwork, approval of volunteer coaches contingent on required clearances, and authorization of student-teacher and observer placements contingent on paperwork. The board also reaffirmed PSBA principles of governance and leadership and approved bus- and van-driver lists for the 2024–25 school year, with the caveat that approvals lapse if certifications or clearances expire before the next board meeting.
In business affairs the board accepted a settlement recommended by the Lackawanna County Board of Assessment Appeals on parcel 12401-040-00101, setting fair market value at $11,500,000, and authorized the district solicitor to execute the stipulation. The board also authorized the district business manager to close out remaining items from a 2022 sale-and-purchase agreement with Public Asset Management Inc. and Municipal Revenue Services.
Finance motions approved included bills payable for 11/21/2024 through 01/15/2025, the treasurer’s report, lists of checks received, activity-fund reports and cafeteria reports. The board voted to authorize an athletic co-op sponsorship negotiation with Lakeland School District for boys’ and girls’ lacrosse teams.
