Galena Park ISD board approves superintendent contract, personnel, insurance and a slate of policy updates

The Galena Park Independent School District Board of Trustees completed a series of routine and governance actions during its Aug. 11 meeting, approving personnel matters, insurance coverage, policy updates and consent agendas.
Trustees voted to approve the superintendent employment contract by a 7–0 vote after returning to open session from an executive session. The board also approved employment of contractual personnel by a 7–0 vote.
On insurance, the board approved renewal of general liability, auto liability, physical damage, educators’ legal liability and crime insurance through the Texas Political Subdivision Joint Self Insurance Fund (contract F0703) for the term Sept. 1, 2025–Sept. 1, 2026, at an annual premium cited in the meeting as $373,891. Trustee Norma Hernandez moved the insurance renewal, and Trustee Amanda Arabia seconded; the motion carried 6–0 with one abstention as recorded in the minutes.
The board approved TASB‑recommended localized policy manual update 1‑25 and a series of specific local policy revisions (EFB — instructional resource library materials; FD — admissions; FFA — student welfare, wellness and health services; FM — student activities; FNCE — personal communication/electronic devices, among others) on first and final reading. Those motions were moved and seconded by trustees listed in the record and were recorded as carrying 7–0.
The board named a delegate and alternate for the 2025 Texas Association of School Boards delegate assembly and approved the general, construction and financial consent agendas. Several informational reports — including tax collection reports, bond program financial reports for the 2016 and 2024 bond programs, Early Head Start minutes and grant summaries — were presented to the board for information only.
Motions, movers and recorded outcomes include: approval of the superintendent contract (7–0); employment of contractual personnel (7–0); insurance renewal (6–0, 1 abstention); TASB policy updates and policy revisions (reported as 7–0); and determination of willingness to enter an agreement with NRG Greens Bayou 6 LLC (7–0) following a public hearing. The meeting adjourned at about 6:37 p.m.
