The Halifax County Board of Commissioners took several routine actions during the meeting.
The board authorized application for a CJI/Byrne JAG law‑enforcement equipment grant to replace and update radio and mobile systems, with Captain Joe Silly describing the need to outfit remaining vehicles with compatible radio units. The request to apply was moved and approved.
Tax Collector Doris Hawkins presented the annual property‑tax settlement and reported a strong collection rate (about 98.5% of the current year levy). She also asked permission to write off a small set of business personal‑property bills rendered uncollectible by federal bankruptcy; the board accepted the settlement and authorized continued collection work.
The county assessor and the county attorney reviewed two late exemption applications and explained that a mailing‑address error had prevented the nonprofit owner from responding to an audit; the board voted to release the 2024 taxes and to accept the late application records into the assessor’s file.
Finally, the board received a 4‑H youth‑voice presentation, approved nominations and a term waiver for three members of the Halifax County Tourism Development Authority, and heard updates from economic development on permit activity and project funding.
