Greene County commissioners approve agenda, adopt proclamation and make appointment

The Greene County Board of Commissioners met in regular session and approved the meeting agenda and consent items by voice vote before moving to presentations and announcements.

Amanda Smith, director of the county Department of Social Services, read a proclamation asking the board to declare August 2025 as Child Support Awareness Month and cited statewide collections in recent fiscal years. The board adopted the proclamation by voice vote.

County staff reported two items from the county manager: a single applicant for an unexpired seat on the East Carolina Workforce Development Board and a $20,000 grant for recreation improvements. Commissioners approved the workforce appointment and asked that the recreation project — which includes a proposed covered seating area and backstop work, with installation proposed as a donation by S and S Metal Works — be considered and recommended by the reconstituted recreation board.

An unidentified commissioner moved that the board go into closed session to consult with the county attorney under state law; the motion carried and the board recessed. The board later returned to open session and adjourned.
