The Greater Egg Harbor Regional High School District Board of Education on the posted agenda approved multiple routine consent items, heard a district operations report covering facilities, staffing and student orientation, and voted to go into executive session to discuss personnel and attorney-client matters.
During the meeting the board approved minutes from prior meetings and cleared a package of business items (B1–B27), transportation items (T1–T9), education items (E1–E15) and personnel items (P1, P3, P21) by roll-call vote. One board member was recorded as recused from item E5; otherwise votes on the listed items were recorded as affirmative and motions were declared approved.
A district staff member delivering the operations update summarized readiness for the school year, saying, “We had over 600 kids out of 770 come for freshman orientation.” The staff member described districtwide technology and facilities work: desktops were replaced in classrooms after some machines had been in service eight to nine years, laptop distribution at orientations covered roughly 70–75% of attending freshmen, and parking-lot lining and painting projects were completed at two schools. The report also noted athletics and band programs were active across the three high school buildings and that performing-arts center work is nearly complete at some sites.
On staffing, the speaker said district certificated staffing was largely complete with one vacancy in the child-study team being actively recruited and two applicants under consideration. The grounds staff experienced a resignation but the district also hired an additional groundskeeper so all buildings will open with two grounds staff each.
The district noted a national shortage affecting wireless microphone availability but said each building would have sufficient microphones for opening ceremonies. The board also discussed community outreach plans: the district plans to hold open houses in September and October and to repeat a college-preparation ‘Greater Egg Day’ at Stockton University for juniors and seniors, an event that has drawn about 50–60 family attendees in prior years.
Procedurally, the board confirmed upcoming county and regional meetings on its calendar (an October session focused on test-score improvement and a December session on legal topics) and recorded brief board-member remarks thanking staff for summer work and a recent staff appreciation barbecue at Oak Crest.
Near the end of the public portion, the board approved a motion to enter executive session to discuss personnel and attorney-client matters; the chair called for the vote and the motion passed.
Actions taken: approval of minutes; approval of business items B1–B27; approval of transportation items T1–T9; approval of education items E1–E15 (with one recusal on E5); approval of personnel items P1, P3 and P21; motion approved to enter executive session. The board adjourned the public session for the executive-session discussion.
What’s next: the board moved to executive session to address personnel and attorney-client matters; no additional public actions were taken before that session began.
