Chickasha council postpones municipal airport hangar lease after operational and contract concerns

The Chickasha City Council voted to postpone indefinitely consideration of a proposed hangar lease for the Chickasha Municipal Airport after council members and airport stakeholders identified multiple operational and contractual problems.

Council member Clark outlined a long list of concerns, saying the draft lease contained inconsistent language on fuel‑flow requirements, conflicting provisions about crew quarters and residential use, and an unclear definition of “active operational aircraft.” Clark also questioned how staff would verify minimum annual flights required by the draft (“how are you gonna do that with the staff you have?”). Airport staff told the council the document improved on the city’s prior lease and was a step forward but acknowledged it lacked some protections and consistent data capture for fuel flow.

Council members said those unresolved items — and a wartime/national emergency clause Clark described as out of place for a civilian hangar lease — warranted further work by the airport advisory board. The council moved to postpone the item indefinitely so city staff and advisory‑board members could rework the lease, and asked staff to provide the previous lease for comparison.

Mayor and other council members framed the postponement as a routine step to avoid approving a document with contradictory or operationally infeasible requirements. The motion to postpone was made, seconded, and carried by roll call.

Next steps: staff and the airport advisory board will revisit the lease language and return the rewritten agreement to council when both groups agree on revisions.
