Following a 15‑minute executive session on nonelected personnel, Valley Center’s City Council voted on Sept. 2 to accept City Administrator Brent Clark’s resignation effective Oct. 24. The motion to accept the resignation passed on voice vote; council then directed the HR director to post the city administrator position to begin the recruitment process.
The executive session was convened under Kansas statute KSA 75‑4319(b)(1) for discussion of an individual employee’s performance. Council reported no official action was taken during the closed session; the resignation and the direction to advertise the vacancy were taken in open session. Council members clarified the position will be posted now for the term that begins when Clark’s resignation becomes effective.
What happens next: HR will post the job announcement, and staff will accept applications and update the council on the recruitment schedule. The resignation is effective Oct. 24 per the council vote.
