Board approves BCR elevator contract for Banneker Marquette after legal review; savings reported
Summary
Board accepted a recommendation to award the Banneker Marquette elevator remodel to BCR Elevators after a legal review found the maintenance contract with Otis did not bar competitive bids; administrators said the BCR quote was $15,000 lower and included a five‑year guarantee. Motion passed 4–0.

At the Sept. 9 meeting the board approved awarding the Banneker Marquette elevator remodel contract to BCR Elevators following a second, lower quote and a legal review.
Administration reported that BCR's quote was $15,000 less than the Otis Elevator estimate and that the scope presented by BCR matched the district's specification. Legal counsel reviewed the existing Otis maintenance contract and advised the board the maintenance provisions did not bind the district to use Otis for work outside the contract's maintenance scope. "Therefore, the request for other proposals does not violate anything with Otis," the counsel said.
The board moved to approve the recommendation and, after roll call, recorded the motion as carried 4–0. The administration said the winning vendor's work includes a five‑year guarantee.
The decision followed the board's prior direction to solicit a second quote and seek legal guidance before proceeding. The administration said BCR is ready to order parts and begin work once contracted.
