YMCA outlines capital campaign and site plan for new Northside facility in The Village
Summary
YMCA leaders presented detailed plans for a new Northside facility near Effner and Penn, highlighting childcare for about 130 children, expanded fitness and pool facilities, and a $26 million capital goal (about $21.4 million reported raised so far); construction is targeted to begin in early 2026.
The Village City Council heard a presentation from YMCA representatives about plans for a new Northside facility that would add early learning, expanded fitness space and pools and aim to increase the organization's child-care and community-service footprint.
Kelly, a YMCA representative, told the council the project is the result of multi-year planning and partnerships and showed renderings for a site the presentation identified at the southeast corner of Effner and Penn, across from Love's headquarters. "This is what the new Northside YMCA is envisioned to be," Kelly said, describing intergenerational spaces, multiple studios and warm-water pools in addition to a four-lane lap pool.
