City launches 'Newton Next' comprehensive plan process, announces public workshops

City planning staff told the commission that Newton has launched its comprehensive plan update, branded "Newton Next," and is working with consultant Olsen after a competitive RFP process. Rebecca, speaking for planning staff, said the project will replace the 2010 reNewton plan and will use multiple outreach channels including a scientific household survey and online options.
"This initiative has a new name and a new website, Newton Next, and it will be the update to the re Newton plan, which was developed in 2010," Rebecca said, and she directed residents to newtonnextplan.com for project details and signups for the "community voices" team. She announced a visionary workshop with the community voices team on Oct. 7 at Fire Station 3 and a public open house on Oct. 8; city and planning commissioners were also invited to leadership‑focused events.
Staff said postcards and project web materials would be available at City Hall and encouraged commissioner and public participation. The Planning Commission received the same memo the day before. The item was presented as an update and informational; no formal action was required.
