City council approves SEH study of water-main needs at airport

The New Richmond City Council on the evening approved a consultant study to evaluate water-main and storage needs serving the municipal airport and nearby properties.
City staff said the study—proposed by engineering consultant SEH and tied to an ongoing airport master plan—would analyze current and forecasted water demand, identify storage requirements and routing alternatives, and estimate construction costs. The presentation noted that work could begin this spring and be completed later in the summer.
Council members asked whether sewer work would need a separate study and whether prior studies could be reused. Staff replied the focus is on water to meet fire-suppression needs but said sewer work could be reviewed indirectly within the scope and that older studies exist though much of the prior information is outdated. “We felt it was advantageous to have the same group do both,” staff said about SEH’s role on the master plan and the proposed water study.
The council moved to approve the study and took roll call; the motion passed. The study will inform future design and any construction budget requests; staff said they would be available to answer follow-up questions as the scope is finalized.
