Monroe council approves $56,500 feasibility study for South Event Center

Monroe City Council on Aug. 19 voted to accept a proposal from Hunden Partners to perform a market feasibility and analysis for the South Event Center at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park Education Center.
Director Cochran told council the city had evaluated past leases and operations and sought an independent market analysis to determine whether the facility can support larger‑scale events, what investments (for example acoustics or a commercial kitchen) might be required, and what revenue the city could reasonably generate. Cochran said the firm’s proposal included stakeholder outreach and historical data review and estimated a 12‑week timeline to produce findings.
Councilwoman Stringham moved to award the contract not to exceed $56,500 and to authorize the assistant city manager/economic and community development director to execute the agreement on behalf of the city. The motion passed on a roll call vote.
Next steps: Hunden Partners will perform outreach and data analysis over about 12 weeks and return to council with findings and recommendations for whether to pursue capital investments for the event center.
