Council approves water, engineering and budget items including $499,998 source-water study

During its Aug. 19 meeting the Jackson City Council approved several routine but material items: a change order that reduces the Bailey Excavating sanitary sewer replacement contract by $174,928.33 to align quantities to field work; a professional services contract with Spalding DeDecker to perform a source-water study for the water treatment plant at $499,998; a local funding resolution authorizing $28,540 to Region 2 Planning Commission for the Jackson Area comprehensive transportation study; a budget amendment reallocating $300,000 from the general fund to the building demolition fund; and Amendment 1 to a major-street engineering contract with Hubbell, Roth and Clark not-to-exceed $66,660.
Council members asked routine clarification questions — for example, whether staff attempts to collect demolition costs from owners when possible and what Region 2 does as the metropolitan planning organization that manages major-street federal funds. Staff said they pursue collectible amounts where feasible and explained Region 2’s role in advancing major-street projects. All of the items passed unanimously.
