Council heard a technical explanation from Chris Goodman, who described operational differences between omnidirectional and unidirectional identifier lights, explained installation and FAA flight- and certification checks, and noted potential underground sync-wire issues on Runway 31 that could require additional work.
Staff said the grant will cover the purchase and that installation would be coordinated with a DOTD-certified aviation electrical contractor; the plan is to combine the installation with an upcoming flight check tied to other runway work to reduce repeated costs. Council approved the award after questions about lead times and responsiveness, with one member recorded as abstaining.
