Council hears updates on police cameras, grants, library roof leak and nuisance properties

City staff provided a series of operational updates during the July 14 council meeting, including public-safety camera use, recent and expected grant reimbursements, the municipal IT migration schedule, and storm-related damage to the new library roof.
Public-safety staff member Fred said the town's camera system, now in place for about six months, has been useful in some investigations but is not used continuously and does not cover every area. He noted that some business cameras (Onward Bank, BP) have been accessed in past investigations and that at least one camera observed on the building was a decoy. "The cameras have been beneficial," Fred said, while emphasizing coverage limitations.
Administration reported a $23,000 IADA cat grant reimbursement has been received and that a $10,000 Akron childcare grant reimbursement has been accepted and is expected this month. Staff also said lead-service-line replacement letters were mailed and at least one resident has completed replacement. The city is preparing to migrate payroll to Tyler and aims to be live for the first 2026 payroll; staff warned that November and December will be busy with implementation and audit requests.
Staff reported storm damage to the new library roof during the July 10 storm. Control wires were unsealed in one spot; staff have applied temporary measures (tarp, remove books from affected area) and scheduled further roof inspection by Michael. Council also discussed nuisance property at the former Oldowan Brewery site; staff said the owner will meet with council and remove debris and vehicles that have been the subject of prior nuisance correspondence.
Council scheduled community events including scribe-night/circus-related activities and a council hot-dog distribution on Aug. 5 at Riverview Park.
Staff noted additional operational items such as quotes being sought for a new police-department furnace and the first data pull from G Works for Tyler migration.
