Brookings board swears in two members, elects Debbie Bates president

The Brookings School District 05-1 board completed its reorganization for the 2025–26 year at the July meeting.
Stacy Van Beek administered the oath of office to Terry Johnson, who was reelected, and to Cassie Juba, who will serve as a new board member. After swearing in the members, the board opened nominations for officers: Speaker 3 nominated Debbie Bates for board president and the motion passed on a unanimous ballot. Terry Johnson was nominated and chosen as vice president.
The board also finalized subcommittee assignments for the coming year, assigning members to performance oversight, facilities and construction, policy and governance, and school finance committees and appointing ad hoc members. The board thanked outgoing members and welcomed new participation as it moves into committee work for the year.
