Residents press Atoka leaders on Kimbrough left-turn, water-bill issues

During the public-comment period at Atoka’s March 11 board meeting, two residents raised separate service concerns and asked the board to follow up.
Brett Pickard of 165 Atkinson Circle asked about a previously discussed study on removing a low left turn at Kimbrough. Pickard said he had been told a study would be done; board members and staff answered that no study had yet been completed and said they prefer to wait until an upcoming roundabout is installed — expected in the second or third quarter of the year — before spending town funds on a standalone traffic study. The mayor and staff cited police concerns about stopping and turning traffic near the bridge and described the roundabout as the likely solution.
Later, Kevin King of 570 Williamsburg Drive described an unusual item that came from his tap earlier that day and said at least one neighbor reported the same issue. King also alleged a town employee named Crystal was rude when he called to inquire and said online comments he had seen about water bills had disappeared; he said he filed a FOIA request and came to the meeting to complain. The mayor apologized for any poor customer service and said staff would look into the matter.
No formal board action was taken during the public-comment period; the mayor directed staff to investigate the utility complaint and noted the traffic decision would await the roundabout's construction and police input.
Next steps: staff to follow up on the water-bill complaint and FOIA request; traffic changes on Kimbrough will be revisited after the roundabout project is in place.
