The Atoka Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted on Feb. 18 to award a contract for replacement of the Main Street pump station and upgrades to the Kearns lift station to Chris Hill Construction for $6,007,720.
Town staff, citing a public-works memo and discussion at a prior work session, presented two other bid figures: ABES Contracting at $5,225,000 and Crystal Construction at $6,047,720. The board’s motion to award to Chris Hill Construction noted the contractor’s prior work for the town and emphasized contractor experience and schedule reliability.
Alderman Harbor explained the choice during the meeting: "...we're also under a tight deadline with this being ARPA funds that has to be spent by September 2026," and argued that hiring a contractor without experience on a project of this scope carried too much risk.
The board approved the award by voice vote after a motion and second. Town staff said the bids and prior work-session review had addressed board questions; public-works leadership (Wesley Arborough) had supplied the bid memorandum included in the meeting packet.
Next steps include contract execution by Public Works and project oversight reported back to the board at future meetings.
