Atoka board OKs first consideration of water, sewer rate changes tied to supplier increases

Town staff told the board the key change is a projected increase of about $0.078 per 1,000 gallons for water to reflect higher acquisition costs from the city of Munford and Poplar Grove Utility District. There are no proposed changes in the sewer rate section; the ordinance updates connection and tap fees to reflect a broader set of meter diameters and flattens the after-hours service restore/activation charge to $100 for consistency.
Staff noted Poplar Grove has signaled additional annual increases through 2028–29, which is a driver for bringing the town's rates in line with supplier costs. Board members asked whether revisiting a town-owned water plant had been studied previously; staff said a feasibility study from 2017–2018 exists and could be redistributed to the board for consideration.
Because this is an ordinance, the board proceeded by roll call and passed the measure on first consideration unanimously; further readings will follow per the town code-adoption timetable.
