Dorchester 02 updates timelines for multiple referendum projects, bus facility and HVAC work

Facilities staff reported progress on multiple referendum-funded construction projects across the Dorchester 02 school district and outlined schedules for remaining work, approvals and upcoming bids.
Speaker 2 (Facilities staff) said crews “put the roof on last week” at Sandhill, with mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins progressing and brickwork having begun the previous Thursday. The presentation listed a sequence of active projects and projected milestones, including an elementary-site project with state and local permitting approved and a preconstruction meeting held the same day the state gave clearance.
The board heard that Ashley Ridge High School’s Phase 1 is complete but work on phases 2–4 awaits fire marshal approval after a sprinkler-system issue; Speaker 2 said the district is addressing the sprinkler work and anticipates beginning construction on the remaining phases within several weeks once approvals are finalized. For another high school, staff reported a successful schematic design review with OSF and said design documents and schedules will be submitted around Thanksgiving week.
On classroom additions, Speaker 2 said discussions with an OSF representative indicated one project could skip a separate CD phase and move from design development straight to construction documents to accelerate delivery, with documents expected to be uploaded by October. Structural masonry at an elementary site is “well underway,” staff said, with substantial completion scheduled for February 2026.
The district described Oakbrook/Bridal school work as “dried in” and nearing window installation; once windows and roofing are complete, contractors will use temporary air conditioning to dry block and floors so interior finishes can begin, with completion expected in December. The planned bus maintenance/transportation depot is described as a pre-engineered steel building with about 2,000 square feet of office space; staff are coordinating civil drawings and contractor selection so that construction can proceed quickly once ground is broken.
Operations metrics were summarized by Speaker 3: 2,149 work orders were generated in August, 1,865 were completed (an average completion time of 3.8 days), and roughly 87% of the month’s requests were closed. Speaker 3 also noted courtyard improvement projects, some funded with TIF money, and announced planned bids for ceiling renovations and HVAC replacements using available 8% funds.
Next steps: staff will pursue outstanding approvals (notably fire marshal sign-off and remaining OSF permitting), finalize construction documents for projects moving to the next phase and issue upcoming bids for HVAC, ceiling and renovation work.
