High-school construction advances; district reports progress on HVAC, sidewalks, and interior finishes

The Tea Area School District operations director reported substantial progress on the district's high-school construction project, including completion of much of the concrete work, active HVAC ductwork and chiller startup, and ongoing interior finishes such as sheetrock, painting and acoustical work.
Wayne, the operations director, said crews have been installing sidewalks and steps and that HVAC crews have started chillers on the south end of the ice project; he noted the new ice-storage tanks had leaks that are being corrected and that the system should be fully operational after the vendor replaces tube bundles. "The concrete crews have been doing a lot of sidewalks and steps and stuff all around the building," Wayne said. He also said the fire pump system has been installed to provide adequate pressure for the taller building sections and that electricians completed work tying the main transformer into the building.
Other tasks in progress include restroom fixtures, acoustical ceilings in classroom hallways, stage-area painting, and staging of roughly 150 wooden doors for classroom installs. Wayne offered tours for board members and trustees interested in seeing progress.
Timing and next steps: Some elements—such as final stair installations, storefront glass and certain chiller repairs—remain. The operations report said contractors expect to start selected site work and auxiliary projects in early May based on planning-and-zoning approvals.
