MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — The Berkeley County Planning Commission recommended approval of a rezoning request to change roughly 1.6 acres near North Highway 17A and Deep Hole Lane from Flex 1 to General Commercial for a proposed car sales operation.
Staff told the commission the parcel conforms with the county’s comprehensive plan and is located within an established commercial node; staff recommended approval on that basis. Applicant Carl Washington told commissioners the planned use would be strictly sales — no maintenance or repairs on site.
Commissioners moved to approve the rezoning; the motion carried and the commission will forward its recommendation to County Council, which has final authority on map changes.
Quote: "The applicant is seeking to rezone from Flex 1 to GC… The applicant has stated their intent to use a portion of the parcel for a car dealership," staff summarized during the presentation.
