The Benton County Board of Education approved its meeting agenda and consent agenda and moved forward on multiple administrative and budget items during a regular session.
Board members voted to accept the consent agenda, which the chair said included the January minutes, approval of substitutes and pending background checks, designation of Feb. 6 as Principal Appreciation Day, and the appointment of Glenn Digley as a CHS baseball assistant coach. The motion to approve the agenda and consent items passed by voice vote.
The board then accepted the policy committee report. Tim Hunt read the committee's findings and recommendations, noting review of PSBA policy suggestions and several locally referenced policies. A motion and second to accept the committee's report carried.
Members subsequently approved policies 4.603 and 5.118 on first reading. Board discussion referenced minor edits to policy 4.603 and indicated a fuller secondary-level policy will be presented at a later meeting; the first-reading vote carried.
The budget committee report, from a Jan. 24 meeting, recommended employee supplements including $2,500 for certified staff and $2,000 for nonlicensed staff and included budget items such as funding for iPads. The board conducted a roll-call vote to approve the budget committee recommendations; the tally recorded 12 yes, 0 no.
Finally, the board approved three budget resolutions that included routine comptroller-required budget entries and reallocations for federal funding and contracted services. The resolutions were explained by staff and then approved by roll call, with all members recorded voting yes.
The board did not take public votes to adopt the policies beyond first reading; second-reading votes will occur at the next full board meeting as scheduled.
