Superintendent summarizes four district goals and announces tree-planting grant, service day

Superintendent Dr. Zircher updated the South River Board of Education on district priorities and programs, highlighting progress on four district goals and several initiatives aimed at student supports and community engagement.

Dr. Zircher said the district focused this year on (1) instruction and learning, including developing a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS); (2) physical, social and emotional health with a systematic approach to assessment and support; (3) human resources, with expanded recruitment and retention outreach; and (4) safety and security, where additional security equipment has been installed across buildings. "We did have four goals for the 24–25 school year," Zircher said, summarizing the priorities and the district's work toward them.

The superintendent described a grant on the agenda to plant trees across campus that will include learning opportunities for students, and she outlined a partnership called the Dreams program that offers counseling and wraparound services for families and staff. She also announced a districtwide Day of Service scheduled for June 3 when students will engage in community service activities. Zircher said spring standardized assessments for grades 3–12 are complete with makeup dates available and reminded the public that the proposed 2025–26 budget is posted and available for review.

Board members had no further questions at that time and moved the meeting forward to committee reports and consent items.
