Public health board okays opioid-co-responder funding, AmeriCorps renewal and SHIP intent

Jacqueline from Benton County Public Health asked the board to adopt a resolution authorizing use of opioid-settlement funds to support a mental-health co-responder program; commissioners incorporated the resolution into the record and approved it.
Jacqueline also asked the Community Health Board to support renewing the county's AmeriCorps site to host up to three AmeriCorps public-health members per year. "Most of ours have been 40 per week, fully funded through AmeriCorps," she said, explaining that the county's primary responsibilities are supervision and office resources while AmeriCorps provides benefits and wages.
Finally, public health staff requested authorization to submit a notice of intent to apply for the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) grant once again; staff said the previous SHIP award for the county totaled about $841,000 over five years and that the FY25 programming request was roughly $841,000-class magnitude though funding formulas will determine final amounts. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the actions to incorporate the resolution, support AmeriCorps renewal and submit SHIP intent.
All three votes were procedural approvals to authorize staff to pursue funding and program support; final award amounts and formal grant agreements will come through later administrative processes.
