Overton County School Board approves 2025–26 pay scales and one-time $2,000 bonus for staff

The Overton County School Board approved multiple pay-scale actions at its July 29 meeting, including the 2025–26 support personnel pay scale and the licensed instructional salary schedule, and it approved a one-time $2,000 bonus for teachers and support staff to be administered in accordance with state guidelines.

Motions to adopt the pay scales were moved and seconded during the meeting and passed by roll-call votes. Board members asked clarifying questions about supplements and several members declared conflicts of interest during votes. The board also approved the bonus item after discussion and a roll-call vote.

During the work session that followed the regular meeting, district staff proposed adding a supplement for the high-school athletic director (a role that in the past had been tied to an assistant principal or performed during a planning period). Board members debated appropriate compensation levels: some recommended $6,000 while others said $4,500 had been used previously. The board instructed staff to place a $6,000 supplement for both the countywide athletic director and the high-school athletic director on the next meeting agenda for formal action.

Staff also said the district absorbed its gifted coordinator position into other duties and proposed giving the employee a prorated supplement rather than hiring a separate salaried position; a prorated figure of about $2,200 was mentioned as an example but final amounts were to be calculated and brought back for approval.

The pay-scale and bonus approvals take effect for the 2025–26 school year; specific dollar amounts for contracted positions and any retroactive pay were not read into the record at the meeting.
