Board approves $533,468 SRO contract, advances policy revisions and OKs FFA trip; moves toward closed session

The Lenoir County Board of Education voted Sept. 8 to approve the 2025–26 School Resource Officer (SRO) contract and memorandum of understanding with the county sheriff’s department, a contract the district characterized in the presentation as totaling $533,468.06 and covering six full‑time SROs, an elementary rover/supervisor position and a DARE officer.
"The contract for the 2025–26 school year is for $533,468.06, which includes 6 full time SROs and elementary school rover/supervisor, and the DARE officer who serves our elementary and middle schools in the service area," the presenter said. A board member moved to approve the contract and the board proceeded to vote by showing hands; no roll‑call tally appears in the transcript.
Also approved without objection were a package of policy revisions recommended by the policy committee. The policy committee leader described a process of batching policy reviews to align changes with state law and bring clean recommendations to the full board; Mr. Woods moved the motion to approve the policies and the board adopted them.
The board also approved a field trip request for eight FFA students, chaperoned by two teachers, to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 28–Nov. 1.
Late in the meeting a board member moved that the board go into closed session under North Carolina General Statute 143‑318.11 to consult with legal counsel and consider confidential personnel matters related to the initial employment of an individual.
