The Research & Sponsored Initiatives Committee approved two items: (1) a waiver permitting LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans to appoint Dr. Gary Klasser to the Henry Rimeon endowed chair in orofacial and maxillofacial pain without a national search, and (2) a policy revision moving the deadline for the endowment professorship subprogram from March 31 to February 28 to align with an expedited competitive review schedule.
Miss Robinson reported the appointment request met internal policy requirements and an external evaluator from the University of Kentucky Medical School strongly recommended approval of Dr. Klasser. Committee members moved and seconded the waiver; the motion passed.
On the support fund, staff said the change is intended to ensure awards can be recommended before funds are potentially swept—referencing a pending vote of the people related to the Regents support fund. To limit risk, the committee said it had removed multiyear awards from current competitions and focused on one‑year awards and endowment matching that can be obligated in the current fiscal year. The committee approved the policy revision by voice vote.
