Coffee County highlights programs as school year begins; students describe AP, leadership and dual-enrollment paths

District staff reported 7,134 students in kindergarten through 12th grade and 7,482 including pre-kindergarten.
Two Coffee High students described how district programs prepare them for higher education and careers. Student Kinsley Farrah Moore said AP classes “definitely helped me transition to the University of Georgia,” and credited student council with leadership development. Carissa McKenzie said participating in high-school programs taught discipline, service and leadership skills that translated into real-world opportunity.
Van Allen outlined academic and career pathways at Coffee High, citing dual-enrollment options, work-based learning programs and advanced placement courses that aim to provide the rigor colleges seek. Board members asked about pre-K capacity; staff replied that several schools have waiting lists, that an additional pre-K class will open at Eastside, and that the district has petitioned to open another class at Ambrose pending approval in the coming weeks.
The presentation followed the board’s opening remarks and a short video produced to introduce the school year. No formal board action was required on the presentation; the board moved on to consent and business items after the remarks.
