Special-ed classroom rebuild and softball complex design move forward, facilities official says

Hal Taylor, speaking for facilities, updated the board Aug. 4 on two capital projects that the district expects to advance this school year.
Taylor said a specialty special-education classroom at Cleveland High School, approved by the board last year, met with engineers and architects in a meeting that should lead to bids. He said the district hopes to schedule demolition over fall break because of noise and to begin reconstruction after the holidays, with a goal of completion in winter.
On athletics, Taylor said ESSER funding had paused final design work for the softball complex's batting cages and locker rooms but that Lewis Group has resumed finishing the design. He told the board he expected to bring final plans to the facilities committee in August and to the full board in September, and that the contract would be sent to Dr. Elliott for review.
"We hope to do demolition by have it in place, have the contract in place, and do demolition for that classroom, over fall break because it will will be noisy," Taylor said. "I will probably bring you some final plans, at the facilities meeting in August to be voted on in September."
Taylor said the timeline is tight for having the softball complex finished by the season, but he and the architects were working to move the projects forward now that design work has resumed.
