Sean Martin, manager of public affairs for Atmos Energy's Abilene office, told the Sweetwater City Council the company’s 2025 rate review mechanism (RRM) filing initially would have raised the average residential customer's bill by $9.34 per month and the average commercial customer's bill by $30.70 per month. "Together, we've agreed upon that rate structure that will increase the average residential customer's bill by $7.83 per month and the average commercial customer's bill by about $25.73 per month," Martin said.
Martin said the settlement was reached after negotiations with the Atmos City Steering Committee (ACSC), of which the city is a member, and that the ACSC recommended council approve the agreement. Mayor (unnamed in the record) moved for approval, a councilmember seconded, and the motion passed without recorded opposition.
The resolution read into the record declares existing rates unreasonable, adopts tariffs consistent with the negotiated settlement, finds the tariffs just and reasonable and in the public interest, requires the company to reimburse ACSC's reasonable ratemaking expenses, and directs delivery of the resolution to the company and ACSC's legal counsel.
The council approved the resolution as presented; the record does not show a roll-call vote or individual vote tallies.
