Commission discusses Baker Court rezoning requests and announces $2M PDI grant for industrial land purchase

In other business the commission addressed two administrative items. First, staff reported that about eight or nine residents on Baker Court asked to be rezoned from R‑2 to R‑1 after discovering their current classification; the commission agreed to provide official application forms and collect signed applications so the neighborhood can proceed formally through the rezoning process.

Second, staff announced that the city received a $2,000,000 PDI grant toward acquiring approximately 189 acres (the Burnham Farm off Duncannon) for industrial and business‑park development. The total purchase price is roughly $4,744,000; the city will match the remaining funds. Staff said due diligence (phase 1/phase 2) has been completed, the property contains an archeological mound that affects entrance placement, and staff will seek rezoning to I‑2 and coordinate with the transportation cabinet on access.
